Cazouls D Herault

This traditional village has maintained much of its rich historic heritage. The village itself dates back to Roman times but became important in the 13th century when the Knights Templer established a base there. There are several beautiful old buildings and chateaux remaining in what is a very small village with a population of about 400.

There is a very active local population the main industry is wine and the village is surrounded by vineyards, there are plenty of local producers who are happy to offer tastings of their wine. The village has a very strong Tabourin team and was champion of France in 2012. This ancient game is played on a pitch similar in size to a football pitch with a a hard ball (like a cricket ball) and bats like tambourines.

There is a bar/cafe in the village which has simple meals lunches and evenings. The bakers van visits every morning for fresh breakfast goods. Supermarkets and a full range of shops and restaurants can be found in Paulhan a five minute drive away.

The historic city of Pezenas is a 15 minute drive it has an excellent market on Saturdays. There are lots of narrow streets with interesting shops to explore and is well known for its antique and brocante stores.
